What to Expect During Your Appointment

Pre-Arrival

To ensure the most accurate results for your upcoming DEXA scan, please focus on consistency in your preparation. Since the scanner interprets water as muscle mass, hydrate normally but avoid drinking excessive fluids right before your appointment. We recommend fasting 2-3 hours before all our tests if possible. Please arrive wearing light, minimal clothing (ideally a specific “DEXA outfit” you can wear for future scans) to prevent fabric from registering as tissue. Finally, please remove all jewelry, watches, and metal, as these register as bone; however, if you have non-removable jewelry, that is acceptable provided it is worn for every test to ensure your bone density numbers remain consistent.

Arrival

Upon arriving at BodyStats, you’ll be warmly greeted by our front desk staff. We recommend that you arrive at your exact scheduled appointment time to ensure a smooth process. During this initial phase, we will collect some essential information from you, including your fitness goals for the scan. We also require you to fill out a consent form that explains the procedure and addresses any concerns you might have. This is a great time to ask questions and clarify any doubts with our knowledgeable staff.

During the Scan

The DEXA scan itself is a quick and painless procedure, typically taking only 3 to 6 minutes to complete. You will be asked to lie flat on a comfortable scanning table, remaining as still as possible to ensure accuracy. Our state-of-the-art DEXA machine will then perform a low-dose X-ray that passes through your body, measuring body composition, including muscle and fat. Our trained technician will be with you throughout the procedure, ensuring your comfort and safety.

After the Scan

Once the scan is complete, that is it! You will receive a comprehensive email with your data within the day. If you’d like to go over the results we can schedule a zoom meeting with one of our experts!
