Good things first:
1) Easy to book
2) Easy to locate and with ample street parking
3) Tech was quick and competent
4) Quick procedure(s) with no waiting around
5) Reports available immediately
6) Cheapest (private) DEXA scan available by far, with no major reason to question the accuracy other than the weight reported is lower than any other scale (Dr’s office, gym, random hotel, etc.)
The bad:
1) They were running a special that included everything I purchased plus more, for less $ – but the website processed my transaction with no notification, nor was there a follow up “btw, you could have saved…” email. My bad for not noticing, but disappointing.
2) DTES location may put some people off.
3) Relative comparisons are to *their clientele*, NOT the general population.
4) Interpretation (additional PAID consult) was essentially just the tech reading the report to me, with some wishy washy and very generic comments. Perhaps if one were completely ignorant of anything health or physiology related it may have been helpful but I’d imagine that the vast majority of clientele have a decent idea of such things going in – I was expecting detailed analysis and interpretation, not someone to read sections of the report to me. Waste of time/money.
5) Metabolic cart (RMR) test provided basal metabolic rate, but is unable to discern between glucose vs fat burned and give percentage/metabolic efficiency/flexibility. This was entirely the purpose for my wanting a met cart test, and as it is a basic function that should be provided by default. Waste of time/money.
I would say if you want a DEXA scan to track body composition (as opposed to just weight/dimensional measurements), they’re a reasonable option – by far the cheapest around and I’d hope that the precision is repeatable for tracking changes over time. I’d strongly advise that you skip the additional paid consult, Met Cart test, and based on the output from the Met Cart, can’t recommend the VO2MAX testing, either.
Eric was a beauty, super helpful and patient!
